Take Control Of Your Fear And Anxiety Levels

Today I want to share some tips with you that I’ve used myself and recommended to clients that will help reduce the fear and anxiety around the current world situation. When COVID happened I didn’t know too much about it as I don’t watch the news, but within a few weeks everyone was talking about it and my FB and Insta newsfeeds were bombarded with updates. These updates were filtering through from friends, friends of friends, pages I followed, suggested pages etc, and it caused me to feel fearful and anxious. You see our thoughts create our emotions which can be either positive or negative. If you expose yourself to negative/fearful news on a regular basis it can have a negative effect on your mental health. Having suffered with mental health issues in the past myself the daily news updates is a rabbit hole I’m not willing to go down. Here are some of my top tips to help you find some peace and ease in your life in 2021.

  • Reduce or stop watching the news and reading newspapers.
  • Snooze or unfollow media pages.
  • Snooze or unfollow people that are big into posting COVID related news and updates. Sometimes it can be friends and family that you may have to step back from but they won’t know you’ve unfollowed them as they are not notified of this.
  • Avoid conversations around COVID, change the subject or simply say you don’t want to talk about it.
  • Reduce your exposure to social media altogether, I’ve reduced mine in the last few weeks and it feels so good.
  • Follow inspirational pages/people instead.

Now you may be thinking “but aren’t you just sticking your head in the sand Deb?” Yep I sure am but I’ll tell you this, my knowing or not knowing what’s going on in the world is not going to change the actual situation, and by reinvesting my time and energy into things that bring me joy instead of fear allow me to feel happy and free instead of anxious and restricted. Do I still get caught up in conversations/post about COVID from time to time, yes I am human but it is not a regular thing thankfully. I know that where my focus goes, energy flows…aka I’m going to feel lousy afterwards. So I take ownership for my actions and I implement the above suggestions to avoid feeling like crap.

You may also be thinking how do I know the important stuff such as restrictions lifting or those in place etc! My friend Anne sends me an update when anything has changed in relation to curfews, travel restrictions, retail/restaurant opening hours etc, the other stuff I don’t feel I need to know, so my advise to you is get yourself an Anne she’s awesome.
