What the hell is grounding (or earthing as it’s sometimes called) and why on earth (pun intended) should we make it a regular part of our lives?
I read somewhere recently that grounding is an alternative approach to health, this made me giggle because to me there is nothing alternative about it. It is what our ancestors did all the time before modern day living took over our lives, we simply forgot this knowledge! As a child my mom regularly encouraged me to go without my shoes, especially in the summer, just like her mother encouraged her. While she didn’t know all the amazing health benefits of grounding she knew it was good for you and that was enough. Thank you mom, I am eternally grateful.
We live busy stressful lives running and racing day in and day out. We are surrounded by electrical devices such as phones, laptops, TV’s, washing machines etc that radiate harmful EMF’s. Add factory farmed and process food, chemical laden water and pollution to the mix and it’s absolute mayhem on the human body. Modern day lifestyles often cause a build up of free radicals in our body’s resulting in the body becoming positively charged. This can cause us to experience physical/mental/emotional stress, poor sleep, fatigues, pain, inflammation etc.
Human beings are part of the ecosystem of planet earth and connection with this ecosystem is vital for our health and longevity. Unfortunately so many people have lost this connection through modern living. The earth holds infinite amounts of negatively charged electrons that can be absorbed through the skin from direct contact with the earth/soil/beach. The absorption of negative electrons neutralises the positive electrons that have built up in the body and brings the body back into balance. When the body regains balance it will operate more efficiently.

How to GroundÂ
All you have to do is take off your shoes and walk on the dirt, put your hands in the dirt or better still lie in a field/beach making skin contact with the earth. Gardening is a super way of grounding and for me there’s no better feeling than having my hands in the dirt.
In an ideal world grounding daily for 20 minutes or more is what we should aim for but if that’s not possible, do what you can, anything is better than nothing. Plus in the winter you’re hardy going to walk around barefoot for 30 minutes, well not unless you’re fond of frost bite!
A great exercise to do is to rate your stress levels, mood, memory, concentration, sleep, pain, energy levels etc out of 10, then practice grounding daily for two weeks then check back in. The proof is in the pudding. Happy grounding, Deb xxx
